Tips & tricks
Before you dive into searching for data for The Hague, there are some Tips and Tricks that you might find helpful, alongside the links to data sources:
- Different names for The Hague: When looking for data on the The Hague, you will likely find a lot of data and information in English. However, there is much more data in Dutch and so using Den Haag as a search term will yield even more results. Note also that it is worth to check 's-Gravenhage, which is a different, old but still frequently used name for Den Haag.
- Demonym(s): Residents or natives of The Hague are called Hagenaar or Hagenees
- Spatial boundaries: While the MultipliCity The Hague dataportal seeks to collect information on the city level, which has the borders of the municipality (in Dutch: ‘Gemeente’), some sources will include The Hague in a bigger area or have only information on a part of it. Common terms that are also used are city region (‘Stadsgewest’) or metropolitan agglomeration (‘Grootstedelijke Agglomeratie’). (The links lead to CBS’s definition of the term.) These don’t have the same boundaries, so be sure to choose ‘Gemeente’.
