Description

Now that the IRP route is not an option (for the moment), we would like to test the upload of EW-MFA dataset at an EU level thanks to EUROSTAT data.

Discussion and updates

New task was created

Task was assigned to Aristide Athanassiadis

Status change: Open → In Progress

Ok after quite some work, I have one country done (Belgium) and only for Domestic Extraction!!!
Before continuing to other countries I would like to upload it and see whether I receive any errors. Before I do so, we would need an EMP code for "Crude oil, condensate and natural gas liquids (NGL)". The only one material so far I can't link to our EMP. Should we add it as EMP4.2.9?
Given the magnitude of this task I will also recommend to split it into DE, Imports and Exports and DPO and not have one mega dataset and mega task.

Thanks for your work here Aris!

My suggestions on the topic:

  • I think that part of our to-do list should include tools to make uploading EWMFA data much easier. So instead of putting a lot of time and effort into uploading all this step by step, why don't we see if I can make this easier from the get-go?
  • Your current experience will help think about what is currently tricky about uploading these data and maybe you can help write up the tasks around this.
  • For the category that you mentioned, do the data come in that group? I see two options: a) simply reporting it under 4.2 with the material name as stated above (which makes for a less confusing material table), or adding it to 4.2.9 indeed (which makes for a material list with duplicated items but may be easier for some people).
  • Last thing, I would also suggest that we look into an automated conversion when people upload EW MFA so they can use original codes, and the system automatically converts into our own table. That way we won't have to explain this to all.

So anyways, what do you think?

Hey Paul,

Yes, yes, yes! It could be a good investment given how this might be used in the future by more people (?). Actually, we could directly be inspired by the EW-MFA tables from EUROSTAT and "not sweat it too much".

Ahh, writing tasks is not my strong suit but given the amount of work this could take without a tool to upload them, I will gladly write them :)

For the category yes there is data coming in that group. Yeah not sure what is the best solution, especially given if we have a translation table MF <> EMP as you suggested. I guess this is another task right here?

OK great Aris! Let's do it then -- will be a great use of your limited task-writing energy ;-)
And yet let's make another task that is about doing a revision of the material catalog and looking at EW MFA compatibility/conversion.
Thanks!!
