Description

A feature was recently added to filter a dataset to only visualize data linked to a specific reference space, see here.

However, in addition to filtering for data linked to a reference space it is also useful if we can apply a geospatial restriction to a data visualization. For instance, let's say we have data on 10 different wastewater treatment plants. Instead of being able to filter by specific WWTP, I would like to be able to filter data to only include those WWTPs that are located within a specific boundary (say a municipality). The system should then filter data based on the location of the WWTP.

Discussion and updates

New task was created

Task was assigned to Paul Hoekman

Features was now built. Notes:

  • It only shows for secondary visualizations - it will be too confusing if the main data viz is being geospatially filtered
  • Upon entering an ID, the system will check to make sure it's valid (it exists and contains boundaries). If it isn't, an error will be shown
  • Like the other ones, the GENERATE PREVIEW part isn't changed - needs front-end work
  • I have added a little info box (? where people can move the mouse over) that explains how to use this within the chart editor

Sidenote: you can also generate an "on-the-fly" geospatial restriction by adding "?boundaries=XXXX" to the URL of a data visualization.
