Description

At the moment, it is not possible to change the type of a library item, by editing it, after it has been added already. The issue was raised through this forum post.
It is possible to change the library item in the back-end, but it could be useful to enable people to change it themselves if such a front-end solution exists, unless there is a valid reason why this shouldn't be possible?
This seems most important for library item types where it isn't possible to have an attached file, if such a file wants to be added or changed retrospectively.

Discussion and updates

New task was created

In case that we don't catch everything for correct sorting into the processing queues through the tag IDs (although I don't see why we would), I can see this becoming relevant too, as I've noticed that the "GPS coordinates" item type seems to be sorted automatically into the "Geospatial spreadsheet queue", e.g. in Mikkeli.
But, I'm wondering if any of the processing perhaps doesn't work due to an incorrect item type? Paul?

Hi Carolin, yes sure I'll also look into this in the coming weeks. It is indeed directly linked -- if an item is not a GPS Coordinates file then it will not appear in the geospatial spreadsheet queue.

Just checking in on this. I think we actually solved it through another task, at least when people are processing. Is this still pending Carolin?

In any case I think it might be good to have the option to change types also when editing an item, not just when processing. However, that needs some further attention because there are a few special types, mostly Video, Photo, Dataset, Dataportal (the latter two we must phase out still) which will cause problems. So I would need to sit down to restructure some of that before I can set this up.

But first please give me a shout if there is any urgency left in this request from your side.

This was indeed solved for when people are processing and was done through this task. From that perspective it is not pending anymore, but a "simple" editing of item type would still be good, like you said. But there is no urgency from my side. Thanks.

Perfect, noted. I will keep this one to focus on the regular editing in due course.
