Description

To downscale material flows data from the IRP dataset to the urban level we would need a number of proxies. Population is a good one to have. The UN Population Division has a nice time series from 1950 to 2020.

Hey all, where should we upload proxy data (population, GDP, etc.) for countries. One specific city as our guinea pig? Brussels has plently of NUTS stuff but I don't know whether we should continue there?

Hi Aris,
Let's use Munich as our guinea pig / storage "animal". Brussels is too busy with its own data and that makes it messy. No one is currently actively working on Munich, it is a relatively short name and it makes me smile 🙃
I've just started migrating all the NUTS, Urban Audit shapefiles there too.

Great you are working on this Aris! Quick note on GDP data... when you upload this please put use the same spreadsheet template that we use for material flow data. I will need to tweak various things to actually record it but we will be using a similar system as the one used for material flows (it's a flow after all, just of a different type).

Ok sure should we add an EMP category for this? Should we add NACE or ISIC codes as comments?

No, not yet. That is something I will look at in due course. For now I just wanted to make sure you format it in a way that will be roughly compatible. The actual creation of the processing system still needs to take place, and should be done with caution and patience.

Hey Carolin, I think you need to make sure to reprocess all the shapefiles you moved from Brussels to Munich as they are not anymore reference spaces now if I understand correctly.

Why would they not be ref spaces anymore? They still are, no worries. It is just a changing of reference space tags that "moves" the files, but the reference spaces aren't lost.

Ooof, I had a small heart attack the other day!! I thought that if you don't have a processed shp you don't a ref space anymore.
