Description

If you look at this page, you will see that a number of cities do NOT have the country name set. This is normally done automatically, by using the city boundaries to look up the country. Those cities without countries, have no boundaries set.

Your task is to help with this. It is a big task to find the boundaries, so instead it would be great if we can set the GPS coordinates for cities as a temporary fix. That means that you will simply enter the latitude and longitude (which you can check on e.g. Google) for each city. Later, with more time, we can load the actual boundaries, but this would be a great first step.

Hey, I have collected the missing coordinates in the attached spreadsheet.
Note: I added a column to specify if it was a city, territory, municipality, and country. Although it wasn't initially necessary, just to make sure cities with the same names in diff countries are not confused.

Paul told me there would be a way to add the coordinates later on, but so far the spreadsheet would work.

Best,
C.

GREAT Carlos!! I will try to get them fully loaded into the system tomorrow. The spreadsheet is excellent, that should work just fine!!

Hi Carlos,

I got the GPS coordinate stuff sorted -- your coordinates were loaded except for two! Can you re-obtain these:

Jaen --- this is Perú, not Spain
Valladolid --- this is in Mexico, not Spain

Once you have them, you can now add them yourself! To do so, browse to the city in question, and click DATA PROCESSING > CITY BOUNDARIES. You will see a link there that says No shapefile yet but want to enter GPS coordinates in the meantime? Click here --> use that to enter Lat/Lng.

Let me know if stuck.

Carlos, just one more note: because of your work, we could now roll out a map with our cities... check out the homepage of the data hub, jay!!!
