Description

Please have a look at the "New contributors" guide that the Django project provides to people. This kind of overview is easy to read through but can make a huge difference for people that are new so that they feel oriented. It would be very useful if our data portal had a similar guide. This guide should explain the following:

  • What are different ways to contribute: a) uploading data/information, b) processing data/information, c) helping out with the actual building of new tools and things through the priority project's task overview
  • What are good ways to get started with those things? (I would say take an online course first if you want to contribute data; review existing tasks and pick something of your interest in the priority project and either work on that or leave constructive feedback on this in the task; engage in the forum around the discussions; attend a sprint (we should schedule a few more already!!)
  • How to ask questions? (add it straight to the task; use the forum)

Something like that?? Open to your own interpretation. This can be written as a Google Doc and once it's ready we will put it on the website.

New task was created

I've written a beginners guide, see here. If anyone wants to improve/expand, feel free to do so. But it should be enough to get things started!

Task was assigned to Paul Hoekman

Status change: Open → Completed

Also added some guidelines, which I saw at the Django community.
